Kyle Lohse continued his white-hot start for the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday, beating the Pirates 5-1 and running his record to 3-0. Lohse has been so good this year that he gave up one run in seven innings Sunday and his ERA actually went up. The pitching has been a big reason the Cardinals have gotten off to a fast start and lead the NL Central Division by four games.

Michael Jack Schmidt strode to the plate at Three Rivers Stadium 25 years ago Wednesday in the ninth inning of an Easter Saturday tilt between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Phils trailed, 6-5, with two outs and big Don Robinson looking to shut the door. Schmidt would look to turn the fortunes of what had been a terrible, 2-8, start for the Phillies.
