It was another terrible game for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night. They lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-2 as they two teams opened up a four game series. At this point in the season the Pirates and their fans just want to have this season over with.

Russ Ohlendorf took the loss and is now 0-2 since joining the Pirates. He only lasted three innings as he gave up five hits and three runs. Marino Salas pitched three innings after Ohlendorf exited but he gave up four hits and three runs. Romulo Sanchez also sucked it up as he gave up three hits and two runs in two innings of action. The bullpen sucked it up that is for sure, but the offense was just about as bad.

The only runs that Pirates scored came in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Adam LaRoche two-run home run. Yep those were the only two runs for the Pirates.

Let’s just get this season over with already. Pirates Blog

For the third straight night, the Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Houston Astros. The Astros got the best of the Pirates by the score of 7-4 as the continue to play very good baseball. It’s too bad the Pirates couldn’t learn something from the hot playing Astros.

Tom Gorzelanny got the start for the Pirates but he didn’t last too long as he injured his middle finger. He had given up two hits and two home runs before the injury. Denny Bautista was absolutely terrible as he gave up three hits and five runs. Four of those five runs came via a grand slam off the bat of Miguel Tejada.

Adam LaRoche finished the game with two rbi on a solo home run and a rbi double. Nate McLouth and Nyjer Morgan both added a rbi each for the Pirats as well, they just couldn’t keep up with the Astros and that grand slam by Tejada was the difference in the game.

The Pittsburgh Pirates lost a close game on Monday night to the Houston Astros as the two teams opened up a series. The Pirates scored two runs in the sixth inning but were unable to push across one more run to tie the game late. The Pirates are now 60-83 on the season after dropping the game to the Astros.

The Pirates were out hit in the game 8-6 by the Astros. The Pirates just couldn’t come up with the big hit late in the game to tie it up or take the lead. Adam LaRoche and Brandon Moss both had rbi singles in the sixth inning for both of the Pirates runs.

Ian Snell took the loss as he gave up all three runs in six innings of action. Snell didn’t throw the ball too badly as he gave up a solo home run and two rbi singles in the fifth inning. Just one bad inning but it was enough to beat the Pirates.

Wow, this sure isn’t fun blogging about the Pirates the way they have been playing lately. The Pirates were beaten badly by the Chicago Cubs on Monday night by the score of 12-3 as the Cubs took the first game of a three game series.

The Cubs jumped all over Pirates starting pitcher Jeff Karstens as he only lasted three innings. Karstens was charged with six hits and five runs including one home run. The home run was a three run shot by Aramis Ramirez in the third inning. The Pirates bullpen wasn’t any better however as Jason Davis gave up five hits and five runs in two innings. Sean Burnett also gave up four hits and one run.

At the plate for the Pirates they only scored three runs while striking out eight times. Adam LaRoche had a two run home run off of Ted Lilly and Brandon Moss had a solo home run off Lilly. That was all the offense for the Pirates.

The Pittsburgh Pirates erupted for seven runs in the top of the 9th inning and went on to beat the Houston Astros by the score of 9-3 on Monday night.  The Pirates went into the 9th inning trailing 3-2 but they were able to jump all over Astros closer Jose Valverde and knock him out of the game and take the lead and eventually win the game by six runs.

Jason Bay got things started with a solo home run in the 9th inning and then Adam LaRoche followed up with a two run shot to give the Pirates the lead.  Jack Wilson tacked on a two run single while Freddy Sanchez had a three run inside-the-park home run to score the final three runs of the game.

Sanchez led the team with four total rbi.  Bay and LaRoche both had two rbi while Wilson had one rbi to help out.  The offense was lucky to get going against Valverde and it was a huge win on the road for the team.

Tyler Yates who pitched the bottom of the eighth inning recorded the win and is now 4-3 on the year.  John Van Benschoten pitched the first five innings of the game and gave up six hits and and allowed the runs to score.  The Pirates pitching staff got lucky as the Astros left 30 runners on base and really should have scored more then three runs.  Oh well, the Pirates will take any breaks they can get!

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros had to sit through a 27 minute rain delay on Tuesday night but that didn’t bother the Pirates who came from behind to beat the Astros 4-3.  The Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to shock the Astros and steal a victory from the divisional foes.

Adam LaRoche went 3-4 and had a solo home run in the 8th inning to get the Pirates comeback started.  Little man Nate McLouth then had a two run single that scored Jose Bautista and Luis Rivas for the tying and go ahead runs.  McLouth also had a solo home run in the fifth inning as he finished the game with three rbi.

John Grabow improved to 5-2 as he pitched two innings to pick up the win.  Damaso Marte pitched the ninth inning and picked up his third save of the season.  Starting pitcher Ian Snell only pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up four hits and one run.  He was taken out of the game after sitting through the rain delay.  T.J. Beam gave up two quick runs after he came in for Snell when the game resumed.

Good come from behind win for the Pirates who are now 42-47 on the season.  Pirates Blog

The Pittsburgh Pirates won a wild game on the road in Cincinnati as they beat the Reds 6-5 on Tuesday evening.  The Pirates and Reds played 11 innings and it came down to the final out before anyone could actually breath.  It was a back and forth game the entire game and the Pirates were lucky to come out on top if you ask me.

Jack Wilson and Nate McLouth delived rbi’s in the top of the 11th inning for the Pirates.  Wilson had a rbi triple while McLouth had a rbi single for what would be the game winning run.  Adam LaRoche, Doug Mientkiewicz, Jason Michaels, and Jose Bautista all had one rbi in the game to go along with Wilson’s and McLouth’s rbi’s.  Offense came through when they needed to and they were the mvp of this game.

Pirates starting pitcher Zach Duke tossed five innings and gave up six hits and one run to get the no decision.  Duke pitched pretty good but only lasted five innings.  Denny Bautista, John Grabow, and Tyler Yates all pitched in relief before Damaso Marte gave up two runs in the eighth inning.  Matt Capps gave up one run even though he picked up the win in the game to improve his record to 2-3.  Romulo Sanchez got his first save of the season as he pitched the bottom of the 11th inning.  Sanchez didn’t make it easy on himself however as he did give up one run in the inning.

In the end it was the Pirates coming out on top which is always good to see.  Now can they win the rubber match on Wednesday?  Pirates Blog

The Pittsburgh Pirates got a good pitching performance by Zach Duke as they beat the Houston Astros 5-2 on Wednesday night.  With the win the Pirates tied the series at 1-1 with the rubber match being Thursday night.

Duke tossed 7 2/3 innings while giving up seven hits and two runs.  Ty Wigginton took him deep for a solo home run in the first and then Carlos Lee had a rbi single in the sixth inning.  Duke will take that kind of quality start every time he takes the mound.  With the win he is now 2-5 on the season.

Damaso Marte recorded the last out in the eighth inning after Duke left the game and then the closer Matt Capps came in to get his 12th save of the season.

Raul Chavez had a two run single in the fourth inning and then a sacrafice fly in the eighth inning to lead the Pirates with three rbi in the game.  Adam LaRoche had a rbi single in the fourth inning while Nate McLouth had a rbi single in the fifth inning.

The Pirates will try to win the series as they battle the Astros on Thursday night.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were held to only three hits and were blown out by the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night by the score of 9-1.  The Pirates were really never in the game as the dropped to 24-28 on the season.

The Pirates one run in the game came in the second inning on a infield single by Franquelis Osoria.  The single scored Adam LaRoche.  Other then that the Pirates only had two hits in the game as the really sucked it up at the plate.  They need to do a better job then that, especially against the Reds pitchers.

Tom Gorzelanny got rocked and didn’t even make it out of the first inning.  He gave up four hits and six runs while only record two outs in the inning.  Terrible job by Gorzelanny.  The next three relief pitcher did a bad job as well as Osoria, Sean Burnett, and Marino Salas all gave up one run.

The Pirates will battle the Reds one more time as they play on Thursday.
